Product Description
Latin Name: Ribes nigrum
Method of Extraction: Cold-pressed (from seed)
Cultivation: Conventional
Shelf Life: 6 months – 1 year, refrigeration recommended
Common Uses: Black Currant Seed Oil is noted for its anti-ageing, moisturizing, and restructuring properties, as high GLA oils contribute to skin elasticity. It is a good choice for formulations intended for mature skin, dry skin, and inflamed skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Its anti-inflammatory properties may also make it beneficial for arthritis and joint pain.
Black Currant Seed Oil contains 6% - 19% gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). This oil is extracted by cold-pressing the seeds of black currant fruit and is often combined with vitamin E to prevent oxidation. It is best added as a portion to blends with other oils to enrich them.
To ensure the oil stays fresh, it is important to keep as much oxygen out of the bottle as possible. Rebottling into smaller sizes as the oil is used can help with this. Refrigeration is recommended to extend the shelf life of the oil.
